I Plate Fitting Guide

Although at present we do not stock the BT I Plate we have compiled this fitting guide so you can see just how easy it is to fit the I Plate or I Plate Alternative that we sell.
First off you can only fit the I Plate to earlier NTE5's without the bell wire filter already fitted, as far as BT supplied NTE5's go anything with a BT Openreach logo DOES NOT NEED AN I PLATE! These already have the bellwire filter fitted just like the NTE5(A)'s that we sell.

Locate your BT NTE5 socket which will look like this :-

Undo the two front screws and carefully pull off the lower front faceplate :-

At this point if you are fitting our I Plate Alternative
note down which colour wires are connected to pins 2,3 & 5 and carefully pull them out of the IDC block. Now take the new NTE5A faceplate and using the tool provided reconnect the wires that were connected to pins 2,3 & 5 like for like. Push the front faceplate back onto the back plate, redo the 2 screws & your done.

If fitting an I Plate slide the I Plate over the extension wiring being careful not to pull the wires out(!) :-

Now push the I Plate onto the back plate :-

Finally push the front faceplate onto the I Plate :-

Note that if you have a filtered faceplate like the ones we sell :-

There is no advanatage to fitting an I Plate and the faceplate simply will NOT plug into an I Plate anyway.

According to BT wholesale figures 7 out of 10 UK homes could benefit from the fitement of either an I Plate or our alternative solution. Speed improvements of 1.5mb per second are typical but can not be guaranteed. Some users have reported improvements of 4mb per second! We'd still recommend the replacement NTE5 faceplate (either "standard" with bell wire filter or ADSL filtered) as we think customers who feel confident enough to fit a faceplate are competent enough to push 3 wires into slots! (It really is that simple!) It's a neater solution than adding another piece of plastic making the socket stick out even more!

To add to the above post, an NTE5 and back box measures 35mm in depth, with an I Plate added this increases to 58mm. An NTE5 fitted with a BT approved NTE2000 or NTE2005 filtered faceplate measures 53mm. Also remember that NOT ALL NTE5's are fitted with the bellwire filter! There are two licensed manufacturers of NTE5's, at present only one has the filter fitted & those are the ones we supply!
