Openreach Optical Network Terminal (ONT) – Genuine Zyxel GPON 2.5GbE Fibre ONT

The Zyxel GPON Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is a modern, compact fibre termination device designed for Openreach Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) installations. It converts the optical signal delivered over the fibre network into a standard wired Ethernet connection for a compatible broadband router.

Equipped with a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet interface, this generation of Zyxel ONT provides greater Ethernet connection capacity than older 1Gbps units. It is designed to support compatible higher-speed fibre broadband services and can be installed discreetly near the incoming fibre connection.

Connect a suitable router using a standard CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet patch cable. This lets the router be positioned in a more convenient location, rather than immediately beside the incoming fibre termination.

Important – Openreach Activation Required: This ONT is not a plug-and-play replacement for an existing Openreach ONT. The network operator must recognise and provision the device for the fibre service. Please check with your broadband provider before purchasing for a replacement or upgrade.

Environmental Design:

Zyxel and Openreach have worked together to reduce the environmental impact of newer ONT deployments. Openreach reports that this new Zyxel ONT range uses housings manufactured from approximately 95% recycled plastic and is supplied to its deployment programme in minimal, plastic-free packaging made from recycled materials.

These measures help reduce virgin plastic use and packaging waste while supporting ongoing Full Fibre installations. Packaging and accessories included with separately supplied retail units may vary.

Important Compatibility & Installation Information:

This ONT requires network-operator provisioning. Openreach records ONT serial numbers against the fibre service and premises. A separately purchased unit will not normally begin working simply by transferring the optical fibre cable and power connection from another ONT.

An existing Openreach ONT is part of the network infrastructure and should not be replaced, moved or disconnected permanently without the appropriate arrangements through the broadband provider or Openreach. Compatibility, activation and any replacement must be confirmed with your broadband provider before purchase.

This is an optical network terminal, not a standalone router or Wi-Fi access point. The 2.5Gbps figure describes the Ethernet port's link capability, not a guaranteed broadband service speed. Actual performance depends on the service package, GPON network, router and connected equipment.
